TEA PARTY (2009)
Shana Simmons Dance's first collaboration with Artmongers, an artistic company focusing on community and outdoor murals led by Patricio Forester. Forester hosted an actual tea party with tea and cakes in a neglected square in the poorer area of London named Deptford. Three dance works were presented, Tea Party, by Shana Simmons, being one of them.
Set to the dialogue from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, a band of dancers blends with the surrounding tea party patrons to create a performance within an experience. Originally performed as part of The Deptford Project, in London, the tea party combines gesture, interaction, dance sequences, and a wild dance off with watching patrons at the end to give everyone a sense of community and fun. |
